5 Habits That Can Age Your Skin

About Me
Learning About Dermatology Treatment of Skin Rashes

Hello, my name is Mandy. Welcome to my site about dermatology. During my first pregnancy, I started to develop rashes on my face and limbs. Unfortunately, the tests came up inconclusive. A visit to a dermatologist helped me solve the cause of the rashes and bring my skin back under control. The dermatologist quickly made a diagnosis and developed an effective treatment plan. From that experience, I decided I wanted to help other people facing frustrating skin rashes without an obvious cause. I will use this site to deliver pertinent information in an effort to help this group. Thank you.

5 Habits That Can Age Your Skin

Your skin is one of your most important features, so you should take extra good care of it. If you neglect your skin and possess certain bad habits, you can age your skin prematurely. Here are five habits that can age your skin:

Being Too Rough With Exfoliating Products

Exfoliating your skin once a week is very beneficial, but it is important to do it correctly. If you rub an exfoliating product aggressively on your face, you can irritate your skin and cause premature aging. Instead, massage the exfoliating product in gentle, circular motions.

Not Using Sunscreen in the Winter

Wearing sunscreen is not just important on hot summer days; it should be worn all year round. Even though the sun is npt as strong in the winter months, it can still penetrate your skin and cause it to age prematurely. You should remember to apply sunscreen to your skin no matter what the weather is like outside.

Not Getting Enough Sleep

Adequate rest is not just important for your mental well-being; it can also have a big effect on your complexion. If you do not sleep enough at night, your cells will not have a chance to repair themselves, which can result in dull and tired looking skin. To keep your skin looking young, try to get about eight hours of sleep a night.

Avoiding Exercise

If you want some youthful-looking skin, you should definitely start exercising regularly. Exercise can help prevent free radical damage and send more nutrients to the skin. It's best to do workouts you actually enjoy so that you stick with them. For instance, if you can't stand going to the gym, try running or biking outdoors.

Eating Too Much Sugar

Your waistline is not the only thing that will suffer from excessive sugar intake. If you eat too many sugary snacks, such as donuts and cookies, your collagen can get damaged, resulting in older looking skin. Monitor your sugar intake more carefully so that your skin stays young looking longer.

As you can see, there are quite a few things that can age your skin. If you start taking better care of your complexion and avoiding things that are bad for it, it will look more youthful. However, if your skin is still not as youthful as you want it to be, talk to your dermatologist, such as one from Petrin Dermatology Center, about different anti-aging treatments.
